Ryland

Ryland goes to Central Park School for Children in Durham, NC. In school, she loves math and sings every Thursday and Friday during electives. Outside of school, Ryland loves to write and occasionally read.

Ellie

Ellie is an eighth grade student at Thurston Middle School in Westwood, MA. She loves music and plays both the piano and the flute. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, hiking, and playing softball.

 

Cynthia

Cynthia is 13 years old and is an eighth grade student at Pattillo Middle School in Tarboro, NC. She likes to cheer and dance. After school, you can find Cynthia at either cheer practice or chorus practice

 

Chrisaun

Chrisaun is an eighth grade student at Central Park School for Children in Durham, NC. At 13 years old, he likes gaming and playing basketball 🏀.

Rachel Anderson

Rachel Anderson has been a teacher since 1989.  For the last thirteen years she has been teaching health related courses to middle and upper school students at Carolina Friend School in Durham, North Carolina.  Rachel wrote the comprehensive sex education curricula.  She is also responsible for training students, staff, and parents in the prevention of child sexual abuse.  She is a certified trainer through Prevent Child Abuse Vermont.  Rachel has also presented conference workshops on both the national and state level.  Presently, she  working on a book for teachers entitled,  Life Talks:  Lessons on Sexuality Through Conversation, Activities, and Storytelling

Dan Carroll

Dan Carroll is a co-founder of Clever, the platform that powers technology in the classroom. Before Clever, Dan was an 8th grade science teacher and tech director in Denver, Colorado. He's excited to use technology to help adolescents make better, more informed decisions about their health. Dan currently lives in San Francisco, and is a graduate of Harvard University.

Nicole Cushman

Nicole Cushman is the Executive Director of Answer, a national organization based at Rutgers University dedicated to promoting comprehensive sex education throughout the U.S. She has over 15 years of experience as an educator and trainer in sexual and reproductive health and has worked to strengthen sex education policies and programs across the U.S. Ms. Cushman’s research and writing appear in peer-reviewed journals and a textbook. Ms. Cushman appears frequently in the media, commenting on the state of sex education and young people's access to sexual health information. She has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, Yahoo! Parenting, Rewire, ThinkProgress, Fusion and Medium.com among other publications. Ms. Cushman also serves as co-chair of the Sexuality Task Force at the American Public Health Association. Previously, Ms. Cushman served as Director of Education for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She began her career as a sexuality educator with Planned Parenthood in the San Francisco Bay Area, working directly with teens and parents in school and community settings. Ms. Cushman holds a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University and a Master of Public Health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

 

Geoffrey P. Davis

Geoffrey P. Davis is an associate attorney at Chichester Law Office in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  He received his undergraduate degree from Campbell University and his law degree from the University of Memphis.  Admitted to the NC bar in 2007, Geoffrey is a trial attorney whose day-to-day practice focuses on representing clients involved in civil and criminal litigation.  He also represents individuals before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and in the appellate courts of North Carolina.

 

Sarah Hoffert

Sarah Hoffert, M.Ed., works with teens and their families to prevent unintended teen pregnancies as the Community Based Prevention Coordinator at Children and Family Resource Center in Hendersonville, NC. She coordinates the Adolescent Parenting Program and facilitates “The Talk”, (Parents Matter! Program curriculum), a nationally recognized and evidence based reproductive health training for parents of pre-teens. Sarah serves on the Henderson County’s School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) and is on the planning team for the North Carolina Sexual Health Conference based in the Triad. Sarah is a 2013 graduate of the NC School Health Training Center’s Family Life Institute at Appalachian State University where she received the most up to date information on reproductive health, sexuality education, and youth risk behavior. She completed a BA at Otterbein College in Ohio, MEd in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration at the University of Vermont, and is a first year PhD student in Human Sexuality focusing on education at Widener University in Pennsylvania.
